Congrats to the USA Women’s Soccer team!

120 minutes into the game, the team was one goal behind and one player short.  The girls did not give up. They weren’t going to let their favored opponent, the Samba Queens, celebrate without a battle. At the 122nd minute, our very own Ask Listen Learn Superstar Abby Wambach headed the tying score into Brazil’s goal. The game went to penalty kicks. All five US players connected with their shots, while the US goal keeper stopped two of Brazil’s attempts. The Americans prevailed.

“Playing 10 men, coming back from a goal down in overtime, to then go to penalties — I don’t know if you could write a better script,” Wambach told ESPN afterward.

Congratulations ladies, and thank you for being great role models on the field this weekend. This is certainly a great belated Independence Day present for the USA!
