The sun may be setting on summer, but the spark of your conversations should only get brighter. Remember that it’s not just a one and done conversation, it’s the small conversations each day that make the most lasting impact.
Working together, we can teach our students to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking during the school year and beyond.
Summer is flying by, and hopefully you have already made memories that your family will remember for years to come. With a few more weeks left before school starts, there is still time to spend more special moments together, make more memories, and have more conversations to last a lifetime.

We have partnered with Discovery Education to launch new materials for teachers, school counselors, nurses, parents and students that dive into the science behind how alcohol affects developing brains, bodies and behavior. April is Alcohol Responsibility Month, which is a great time for teachers and parents to start—and continue!—having conversations with tweens and teens about saying YES to a healthy lifestyle and NO to underage drinking.
Tuesday, January 22 marks the start of National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week – an excellent opportunity to start–or continue–the conversation about underage drinking with your kids and students.
Earlier this year, during Alcohol Responsibility Month, I was excited to hear that I was the winner of Ask, Listen, Learn’s “IN ACTION” contest. As such, I was able to select the education conference of my choice to attend, compliments of Responsibility.org and this awesome underage drinking prevention program.
The 2018 evaluation of Ask, Listen, Learn has demonstrated it as an effective program in increasing students’ knowledge concerning brain function and how their developing brains process and are affected by alcohol.
We believe that everyone has a role to play as we work to prevent underage drinking. Today is National School Nurse Day, and we celebrate the incredible and vital role that school nurses play, both in the fight against underage drinking and in keeping their school communities happy and healthy.
